The England international scored 31 times in 51 games in all competitions in his breakthrough season at White Hart Lane under Mauricio Pochettino last term.
Kane failed to score in his opening six Premier League games this season which prompted some to suggest that the Spurs striker was a one-season wonder.
However, the 22-year-old became the first player to break the 20-goal mark in the Premier League this season on Sunday as he scored twice in Tottenham’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth.
Former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United striker Shearer, who captained England during his decorated career, is adamant that Kane should be an automatic starter for Hodgson’s side.
“Harry Kane is on fire this season. He should be an automatic in the England team now,” Shearer told Match of the Day 2.
Kane’s double helped Tottenham shave Leicester City’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points with seven games remaining.
