Alan Smith predicts where Arsenal will finish in the title race

Alan Smith runs the rule over Arsenal's Premier League title bid

Alan Smith says Arsenal won’t win the Premier League this season despite insisting the Gunners still have an outside shot at title glory.

The north London side suffered their first FA Cup defeat in three years on Sunday afternoon after a 2-1 loss to Watford at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are 11 points behind leaders Leicester City after Claudio Ranieri’s side were 1-0 winners against Newcastle United at King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Arsene Wenger’s side can close the gap to eight points if the Gunners win their game in hand but face a tough assignment with 11 Premier League fixtures remaining in their season.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, former Arsenal striker Smith demanded that the Gunners improve their performances heading into the final straight.

“Arsenal can still win the league,” Smith said.

“The eight-point gap is big but there are still nine games to go. There are plenty of points to play for but they cannot afford to drop any more.

“Of course they can still win it, but I don’t think they will. They have got to give it their best shot and certainly have to play better than they have been of late.

“My mind turns to the Manchester United performance and the Watford defeat where the level dropped, they were better against Spurs but you’d expect them to be up for a north London derby. They have got to pick things up quickly.”

Arsenal make the trip to Barcelona on Wednesday night for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.
