Arsenal defender responds to Arsene Wenger’s criticsm
Gabriel Paulista rejects Arsene Wenger's claims that his lack of understanding in English is affecting his Arsenal displays
Gabriel Paulista has rejected Arsene Wenger’s claim that his lack of understanding English is affecting his communication skills on the pitch for Arsenal.
The Brazilian defender has been a regular fixture in the north London side’s first team this season, making 14 Premier League appearances and scoring one goal for the Gunners.
Speaking after Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford, Wenger suggested that Gabriel’s lack of understanding the English language could be affecting his ability to communicate on the pitch.
Wenger said: “I would prefer him to have better English because in the fraction of a second sometimes someone can help you and communicate better.”
However, the centre-half has insisted that he has no problem communicating with his team-mates as Arsenal prepare for their FA Cup trip to Hull on Tuesday night.
Gabriel is quoted as saying by IBT: “I already understand my team-mates on the pitch. I still miss some things but I am improving.”
Arsenal head into their FA Cup fifth-round replay at Hull looking to return to winning ways after their 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday left them eight points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
