Bastian Schweinsteiger sent a message to the Manchester United supporters after Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at The Etihad.

United’s 18-year-old teenager Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock in the 16th minute after he escaped the attentions of City’s experienced defender Martin Demichelis to score his third Premier League goal.

The United youngster was denied a penalty before half-time but City escaped unpunished as Manuel Pellegrini’s side looked to find a route back into the game.

The hosts had a staggering 26 attempts on David De Gea’s goal but Sergio Aguero was unable to find an equaliser on Eastlands.

Germany international Schweinsteiger was brought on in the second half as Louis van Gaal looked to consolidate the three points.

United are in sixth place but level on points with top-four chasing West Ham United.
