Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Tottenham v Dortmund
Charlie Nicholas looks ahead to Tottenham's home clash with Boruissia Dortmund on Thursday night
Charlie Nicholas is tipping Borussia Dortmund to hold Tottenham to a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Thursday night and progress to the Europa League quarter-finals.
Spurs head into the game needing to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit in north London after their heavy defeat in Germany last week.
Tottenham bounced back to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they sealed a comfortable 2-0 win at Aston Villa thanks to two goals from Harry Kane.
The north London side have their work cut out if they want to reach the last eight of Europe’s second tier club competition.
And former Arsenal man Nicholas feels that Spurs do not have much to lose heading into the game, with the north London side currently second in the Premier League and five points behind leaders Leicester.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “There’s a big call for the Tottenham manager to make after he reaped the rewards for all the changes in the first leg by having Harry Kane fresh and firing at Aston Villa.
“However, there’s a risk in Spurs suffering a real confidence blow by getting well beaten again in front of their own fans, whereas Mauricio Pochettino knows there will be a huge lift in momentum if they can go and win the game, even if they don’t qualify.
“It would be a big scalp because Dortmund are a great side and I think that’s why he’ll be tempted to go with his strongest side, which could leave them exposed against Bournemouth on Sunday. I don’t see Spurs winning this but if they don’t lose then it wouldn’t be a bad night for them in terms of their confidence.”
