Paul Merson is tipping West Ham to hold Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in their Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues head into the game in west London after a disappointing string of results for Guus Hiddink’s men.

Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain last week and were then eliminated from the FA Cup at the hands of Everton at the weekend.

Those defeats left Chelsea with only Premier League positions to play for in a disappointing season for the west London club.

Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League and a staggering 23 points behind leaders Leicester City heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.

Former Arsenal star Merson is tipping the Hammers to continue their recent good form by taking a point away from Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Merson wrote in his column for Sky Sports: “Chelsea will be desperately trying to stop Slaven Bilic’s side reaching the Champions League when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge.

“West Ham are right in the hunt for European qualification but to get a result at Chelsea they will have to play from the first whistle. In recent weeks they’ve only come alive when they’ve been behind.

“They came back from 2-0 down against Norwich and they did the same at Everton, before going on to seal all points.

“They can’t afford to give Chelsea a head start. Again, there’s not a lot between these two sides and I’m going for another 1-1 draw.”
