David James criticised Manchester United’s dull approach to Sunday’s derby after Louis van Gaal’s side were 1-0 winners at Manchester City.

Marcus Rashford scored the winner in the first half at the Etihad Stadium after the 18-year-old teenager completed a slick United move.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side had a staggering 26 attempts on David De Gea’s goal but the Citizens were unable to equalise despite dominating the derby.

Former City goalkeeper James wasn’t happy with Van Gaal’s conservative tactics as the retired England number one took to Twitter to slam United.

However, James did praise United’s 18-year-old match-winner.

The Red Devils remain in sixth place but move level on 50 points with fifth-placed West Ham United.

Van Gaal’s men are a point behind their bitter derby rivals who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.
