Dwight Yorke: Marcus Rashford is nowhere near ready at Man United
Dwight Yorke discusses Marcus Rashford's rise to prominence at Manchester United in recent weeks
Dwight Yorke has warned Manchester United fans not to get carried away by Marcus Rashford’s impressive start to life in the first team.
The 18-year-old striker announced himself to the Manchester United faithful with four goals in two games against Midtjylland and Arsenal to help Louis van Gaal’s men secure back to back wins.
The teenager has made four more first-team appearances since his stunning four-goal haul but has failed to find the net in any of those games.
And although Yorke was delighted to see the youngster grab his chance to impress with both hands, the former Manchester United man feels that it is important that the Red Devils’ fans do not get carried away by the hype surrounding the youngster.
Speaking exclusively to 888sport, Yorke said: “It’s too early for the kid and he is nowhere near ready.
“He’s come in and got lucky and took his opportunity but we’ve seen this before where everybody raves about a kid because it is such a big club.
“He deserves all the publicity he got from his goals and that’s fine but we’ve seen this situation before with Macheda where everybody thought he was going to be huge but it didn’t quite work out.
“This kid will either go far or we’ll never hear from him again but right now it’s far too early to say he’s anything amazing.
“This is a great learning curve and we’ll see next season if he makes strides but right now he needs to keep his head down and keep working.”
Manchester United now turn their attentions to the return leg of the Europa League tie at Old Trafford on Thursday night as they look to overturn the 2-0 deficit.
