Gianluca Vialli tells Chelsea to appoint this man as next manager
Gianluca Vialli says Chelsea should appoint Antonio Conte as their next permanent manager in the summer
Gianluca Vialli has urged Chelsea to appoint Antonio Conte as their new manager and backed the Italian to bring success to Stamford Bridge.
Conte has emerged as one of the favourites to take over from interim boss Guus Hiddink in the summer after Jose Mourinho’s dismissal back in December.
Chelsea’s new manager will be tasked with steering the Blues back into the Champions League after they were dumped out of the competition by Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night and look unlikely to finish in the top four this season.
Vialli says that Conte would be a good fit for the west London club and has backed the potential appointment of the 46-year-old Italy boss.
Speaking on BT Sport after Chelsea’s loss to PSG on Wednesday night, Vialli said: “I think that probably 50-60 per cent of the trophies won by Chelsea in the last 20 years have been won by Italian manager so I think going for an Italian manager is definitely a good choice.
“In Italy they call him the Italian Mourinho because he’s got that kind of personality.
“His teams aways play in a very humble way with a lot of humility and pride and tactically they are always well placed on the pitch.
“He is a winner, he won three consecutive titles with Juventus so I think if he’s the guy signing the contract he will be a great choice.”
