Glenn Hoddle delivers frank assessment of Tottenham’s title chances

Glenn Hoddle issues a warning to Tottenham Hotspur about their Premier League title hopes this season

Glenn Hoddle believes that this season represents Tottenham’s one-off chance to win the Premier League title.

Spurs are currently second in the table as they bid to continue their recent fine form and win their first league crown in 55 years.

The north London side have earned plenty of new admirers for their impressive performances this season and currently sit two points behind leaders Leicester City ahead of the Foxes’ clash with Newcastle on Monday night.

However, former Tottenham man Hoddle feels that if Spurs are unable to win the title this season, the Lilywhites may have to wait many years to have another shot at lifting the trophy.

Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa, Hoddle said: “This is one-off year where the door’s been left ajar.

“Let’s face it, if Spurs don’t make it this year and win it, every Spurs fan will look back in 20 years and say: ‘That time when we had a chance, Leicester City won it! Not Chelsea, not Arsenal, not United. Leicester won it.’

“Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not knocking the team. But next season they’ll have such a hard task to get in that top four. They’ll make the top four this year.

“But next year Chelsea and United will bring in new managers who will get more money; Jurgen Klopp will get money; Pep Guardiola will. The door could be closed for another three or four years. This is the moment. And at 2-1 up against 10-man Arsenal, that is a defining moment. For 13 and a half minutes we were top of the league.”

Tottenham now turn their attentions to their Europa League return leg clash at White Hart Lane on Thursday night as they look to turn around their 3-0 deficit from last week’s game in Germany,
