Harry Redknapp comments on Tottenham boss, aims dig at Man United
Harry Redknapp has his say on Mauricio Pochettino's future beyond the summer
Harry Redknapp has questioned why Mauricio Pochettino would want to leave Tottenham to take charge of Chelsea or Manchester United.
The Spurs manager’s future has been a source of speculation in recent weeks after his Tottenham side have earned plenty of new admirers for their impressive form this season.
Spurs are currently second in the Premier League table as they look to capitalise on their best chance to win the top flight title in recent years.
There has been plenty of speculation about who the next manager of Manchester United will be in recent weeks following the uncertainty about Louis van Gaal’s future at Old Trafford.
Pochettino has been touted as a possible candidate to take over from Van Gaal this summer should the Dutchman leave the club.
But former Spurs boss Redknapp has questioned why Pochettino would want to move to Old Trafford, while also aiming a dig at United’s transfer policy.
Writing in his column for the London Evening Standard, Redknapp said: “There has been a lot of speculation over Mauricio Pochettino’s future but why would he want to leave Tottenham?
“He’s doing an excellent job and will want to see it through. Spurs are a big club with great facilities and will soon be moving into a new stadium. Why go to Chelsea or Manchester United, where he’d be faced with a massive rebuilding exercise, when he’s making such great progress where he is?”
He continued: “It’s easy to go and buy a load of average players — United have done that.
“Spurs just need to do some fine-tuning in the summer. Keeping the manager is the most important thing — and Mauricio should be there for years to come.”
