Harry Redknapp sends blunt warning to Arsenal midfielder
Harry Redknapp tells Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to prove himself at Arsenal
Harry Redknapp has warned Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain that he must first prove himself at Arsenal before considering a transfer away from the north London club.
The England midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer after a disappointing campaign for the former Southampton man.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently out injured and has only made nine Premier League starts for Arsenal so far this season.
West Ham United has been touted as a possible destination for the midfielder should he opt to leave the club this summer.
However, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Redknapp has told Oxlade-Chamberlain that he should focus on stepping up his performances for Arsenal before pondering a move away.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Redknapp said: “Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has achieved nothing at Arsenal yet, so why would he want to leave?”
“He hasn’t achieved what we expected of him in his career so far. I hear Arsene Wenger keep saying Oxlade-Chamberlain can play centrally, but he needs to do it consistently in whatever position at the very highest level.”
“Now is the time to kick on and repay the faith Arsene and his staff have shown in him. He needs to establish himself at Arsenal first before thinking about going anywhere else.”
Arsenal are in FA Cup action this weekend and host Watford at Emirates Stadium as they look to reach the semi-finals of the competition they have won for the last two years.
