Ian Wright states prediction for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal future

Ian Wright believes Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are heading for divorce

Ian Wright believes Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are heading for a divorce at the end of the season.

The Gunners lost their first FA Cup in three years on Sunday afternoon after a 2-1 defeat by Watford in the quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger is coming under increasing criticism from some Arsenal supporters after a run of one victory in seven games in all competitions.

Former Arsenal striker Wright reckons the supporters’s diminishing faith in Wenger could prompt the Frenchman to call time on his Gunners career.

“It hurts so much to even think it — but it feels like Arsene Wenger and Arsenal are heading for divorce,” Wright wrote in The Sun. “Judging from the way the fans have reacted over the past week, that’s the impression I get.

“I’m sure when that day arrives it will all be amicable and friendly, although it does leave a horrible feeling in the stomach right now. He had total faith in his squad, he was convinced it was good enough to win things. And with the way this season has panned out, it should have been.

“That is why when the announcement does come that Arsene has left Arsenal, every player in that dressing room should bow their heads. For when it comes down to it, they are the ones who have let him down more than anyone.”

Arsenal are in third place in the Premier League table as the Gunners look to win their first title since 2004.

The north London side make the trip to Barcelona for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.

The Gunners will be hoping to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit after Barcelona striker Lionel Messi scored twice in the final 18 minutes at The Emirates.
