Jamie Carragher delivers verdict on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
Jamie Carragher discusses Jurgen Klopp's impact at Liverpool as he approaches the end of his first season at Anfield
Jamie Carragher has praised Liverpool for showing the ambition to bring Jurgen Klopp to the club.
The German coach was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October after the Northern Irishman was sacked by the Merseyside outfit.
Klopp is a popular figure and has endured a largely positive first few months in charge at Anfield, guiding the Reds to the League Cup final and up to seventh in the Premier League table.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss is now readying his troops for Thursday night’s crunch Europa League clash with Manchester United at Anfield as the Reds look to beat their bitter rivals and take a step towards the quarter-finals.
And Carragher feels that there are not many other top coaches in European football who could have fit the bill at Anfield.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Carragher said: “I use the role I’m in now to speak to managers and players in order to build relationships.
“It is good to be in contact with Jurgen Klopp so I can interview him for the Daily Mail or speak to him on Sky Sports.
“I think Liverpool have got a great manager. If you ask most people who they would rather have out of Klopp and Antonio Conte, who will probably go to Chelsea, the majority will say Klopp.
“Credit to the club for bringing a manager of that stature to Liverpool.
“I think for the most part he has shown that, hopefully he can do it on the next two Thursday nights.”
Liverpool came from a goal down to earn a dramatic 2-1 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
