Jamie Carragher delivers verdict on Tottenham’s title challenge
Jamie Carragher assesses Tottenham's title chances after their 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday
Jamie Carragher still believes that the Premier League title is Leicester’s to lose, despite Tottenham’s 2-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday.
Two goals form Harry Kane secured victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s men and moved them to within two points of leaders Leicester, who take on Newcastle on Monday night at the King Power Stadium.
Tottenham look to be Leicester’s closest challengers this season following their impressive form in the Premier League.
And although former Liverpool defender Carragher has been impressed by what he has seen from the Lilywhites in recent weeks, he feels that the Foxes still have the advantage in the race.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said: “It’s a game you’d expect them [Tottenham] to win. Villa have been in freefall all season and Spurs probably should have won four or five nil.
“It’s a massive result for them in this title race, but it’s Leicester’s to lose with the gap they have.
“But if [Tottenham] and Arsenal can keep putting the pressure on then who knows? Leicester may falter as we’ve expected them to do, but they’ve proved us all wrong.”
Tottenham are currently preparing for their Europa League last-16 second leg clash against Borussia Dortmund at White Hart Lane, as they look to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit.
