Jamie Carragher tweets his thoughts on Philippe Coutinho's performance as Liverpool knock Manchester United out of the Europa League

Jamie Carragher has taken to social media to praise Philippe Coutinho for his sparkling performance as he helped to inspire Liverpool through to the Europa League quarter-finals at the expense of Manchester United.

Liverpool headed into the game with a 2-0 lead after their impressive win at Anfield last week but fell behind when Anthony Martial scored a first-half penalty at Old Trafford.

United started the game brightly but Liverpool were level on the stroke of half-time after Coutinho danced through the Red Devils defence and chipped the ball over David De Gea to equalise for the visitors.

And former Liverpool defender Carragher, who had earlier criticised the playmaker for a careless pass, could not hide his delight after the Reds drew level at Old Trafford.

Liverpool, who will learn their quarter-final opponents in Friday’s draw, now turn their attentions towards their Premier League trip to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
