Jamie Carragher trolls Man United ahead of Liverpool clash
Jamie Carragher labels Manchester Unitd a "long ball team" after their defeat by Liverpool
Jamie Carragher has labelled Manchester United as a “long ball team” after their 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Red Devils were thoroughly out-played by Jurgen Klopp’s side as they slumped to a disappointing defeat in the first leg of their last-16 tie at Anfield last weekend.
United will look to overturn the two-goal deficit when they host the Reds at Old Trafford in the return leg next Thursday night.
And former Liverpool defender Carragher admits that he has been less than impressed by what he has seen from the Red Devils in recent weeks.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Carragher said: “From my own point of view, I think about United’s name but then I see the way they are playing. It feels like they have become a long-ball team.”
Carragher went on to question Louis van Gaal’s decision to appoint Juan Mata as captain for last week’s clash on Merseyside.
He continued: “Another thing I couldn’t believe was the captain. Juan Mata? I’m not criticising him — I like him, he gets a few goals and assists. But, if everyone is fit, does he even get in the team?”
Manchester United will look to return to winning ways when they host West Ham in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
