Jamie Redknapp says there is “no chance” that Louis van Gaal will still be in charge at Manchester United at the start of next season.

The Dutchman’s future has been a constant source of speculation this season following his side’s stuttering form this term.

United have failed to string together a series of impressive performances during the current campaign but went some way towards easing the pressure on their manager with a 1-0 victory in Sunday’s derby clash at Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho has been hotly tipped with a move to take over at Old Trafford in the summer following his sacking by Chelsea back in December.

Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp is fully expecting to see Van Gaal leave the club this summer, but says that the Dutchman deserves credit for bringing youngsters through this term.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “There’s no way Louis van Gaal will still be in charge at Manchester United next season, but he does deserve credit for one thing: giving the kids a chance.

“You wonder if whoever replaces him will show similar faith in United’s youth or simply demand big-money signings. When a youngster has done well, Van Gaal has backed them.”
