Jermaine Jenas: Why Arsenal debutant Alex Iwobi impressed me
Jermaine Jenas runs the rule over Arsenal debutant Alex Iwobi
Jermaine Jenas has heaped praise on Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi after his performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Everton.
The 19-year-old started his first Champions League game mid-week and Iwobi was unfortunate to not win a penalty during Wednesday night’s 3-1 defeat by Barcelona.
He was a real bright spark for Arsenal
However, Iwobi managed to have a telling impact on the Premier League clash at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon after the England Under-21 international doubled the away side’s lead.
Speaking on Match Of The Day following Arsenal’s much-needed victory, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jenas explained why Iwobi was so impressive.
“He is 19 and played mid-week against Barcelona and he is just so impressive,” Jenas said.
“He has intelligence to his game that I like so much about him.
“He finds space at the right times. He was a real bright spark for Arsenal.”
Danny Welbeck broke the deadlock in the seventh minute for Arsene Wenger’s side at Goodison Park.
Iwobi completed a sweeping counter-attacking move for Arsenal three minutes before half-time to secure three points for the north London side.
The Gunners moved to within eight points of leaders Leicester City before the Premier League pace-setters restored their 11-point cushion thanks to a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.
