Jermaine Jenas: Why Kieran Gibbs would be brave to leave Arsenal
Jermaine Jenas says England defender Kieran Gibbs would be brave to leave Arsenal in the summer
Kieran Gibbs would be making a brave decision if the defender leaves Arsenal in the summer, according to Jermaine Jenas.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium this season after Nacho Monreal established himself as Arsene Wenger’s first-choice left-back.
When you’re at a top club like Arsenal it’s a brave decision to leave
The Gunners defender has been linked with a move away from the north London side amid reports Arsenal could sell the 26-year-old in the summer transfer window.
Discussing whether Gibbs merited a place in Roy Hodgson’s England side for the European championship this summer, Jenas addressed Gibbs’s long-term future at the north London side.
“After falling behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order at Arsenal, Gibbs has been linked with a possible move away from the Emirates,” Jenas told Yahoo Sport.
“There are a few players at Arsenal in a similar position, such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and even Theo Walcott.
“These are players who are good enough to hold down a starting place in most Premier League teams, but when you’re at a top club like Arsenal it’s a brave decision to leave.”
Gibbs has been utilised as an impact substitute for the Gunenrs for most of the season.
The Arsenal defender has scored one goal in 14 Premier League games in all competitions.
However, Gibbs has only made three top-flight starts in the Premier League.
The Gunners will take on Everton in their next Premier League game on Saturday.
