Jermaine Jenas: Why this Tottenham star is England’s best left-back
Jermaine Jenas talks up Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose
Jermaine Jenas has hailed Tottenham Hotspur star Danny Rose as England’s best left-back.
The 25-year-old has established himself as Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice left-back ahead of Ben Davies in Tottenham’s impressive side this season.
There is no way he [Roy Hodgson] can’t be considering the Spurs man now
Rose, who scored Tottenham’s winner in a 2-1 victory over Swansea City last month, has netted one goal and has made two assists in 18 Premier League games so far this season.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas is a big fan of Rose, adding that the Spurs defender should be Roy Hodgson’s number one left-back at the European championship in the summer.
“He’s strong, quick, athletic, improving all the time and he’s probably the best defender in the group,” Jenas told Yahoo Sport.
“For me, the Tottenham man has been the best and most consistent English left-back in the league this season. He has been in England squads before without getting a cap, so Hodgson has had a look at him, but I feel that until now Roy has remained unconvinced.
“Sometimes a manager will feel a player doesn’t tick all the boxes he wants ticked, and Roy has only really selected Rose when other players have been injured. But there is no way he can’t be considering the Spurs man now.”
Dortmund made light work of an under-strength Tottenham side in the first leg in what was the sides’ first competitive meeting, with a 3-0 scoreline perhaps slightly flattering to the visitors.
It was Dortmund’s biggest win against English opponents and Tottenham’s worst defeat over 90 minutes in their 137 Uefa Cup and Uuefa Europa League games.
Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table.
