Joey Barton and Gary Lineker agree over bizarre Liverpool defender

Joey Barton and Gary Lineker tweet their thoughts on Liverpool's unconventional centre-half Mamadou Sakho

Mamadou Sakho won himself some new admirers on Thursday night after the centre-half’s performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield.

The France defender helped the Reds keep a vital clean sheet in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash as Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino scored against United.

Sakho made an unconvincing start to his Liverpool career after a £16m move to Merseyside from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.

However, the 24-year-old has impressed since Jurgen Klopp took over the reins at Anfield despite a high turnover of centre-half partners.

Burnley midfielder Joey Barton, who played against Sakho during his spell at Marseille, tweeted his thoughts on the unorthodox Liverpool defender.

Having read Barton’s tweet, England legend Gary Lineker also ousted himself as a fan of Sakho’s unconventional defender.

Liverpool make the return trip to United in Europa League on 17 March.
