John Aldridge says Liverpool have to keep a clean sheet at Anfield if Jurgen Klopp’s side are to beat Manchester United over two legs in the Europa League.

The Reds will host their bitter rivals in the first leg on Merseyside on Thursday night as Liverpool look to end a four-game losing streak against Louis van Gaal’s side in all competitions.

It’s just a massive, massive tie

Liverpool have won their last three games in the Premier League, including an impressive 3-0 victory over Manchester City in their last outing at Anfield.

While Aldridge is confident the Mersyside outfit can score at Old Trafford in the second leg on 17 March, Aldridge explained why Liverpool must prevent United from scoring on Thursday night.

“It’s important we get a clean sheet at Anfield, 0-0 is not the end of the world and a 1-0 would be a good result,” Aldridge told Liverpool Echo.

“We’re probably more dangerous away from home so we can score at Old Trafford.

“It’s just a massive, massive tie and while the Europa League is a tough cup to win, we seem to be coming into form just at the right time.”

Liverpool are in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points behind Van Gaal’s United side.
