Juan Mata issues rallying cry ahead of Man United v West Ham
Juan Mata is hoping Man United can compensate for their 2-0 loss at Liverpool with victory over West Ham in the FA Cup last eight
Juan Mata has issued a rallying cry ahead of Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter-final against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Louis van Gaal’s side suffered a humbling 2-0 loss to bitter rivals Liverpool on Thursday night in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash.
We need to recover as soon as possible and then focus just on the FA Cup
The Red Devils have suffered back-to-back defeats following a surprise 1-0 loss to Tony Pulis’s West Bromwich Albion side in the Premier League last weekend.
Mata, who will miss the FA Cup last-eight tie against in-form West Ham, attempted to rally his United team-mates ahead of Sunday’s game.
“We need to keep going and move on. In three days we have another massive game for us, the chance to play in a semi-final and a chance to win a title,” Mata told United’s website.
“The FA Cup is very special for all of us and it is against a very good team like West Ham. We need to recover as soon as possible and then focus just on the FA Cup. Then, after the weekend, we can look at the Europa League again.
“It was not a good performance and not a good result obviously,” Mata continued. “But we need to move on, we need to win on Sunday. It is a chance to play at Wembley again.
“And then we come back in this Europa League competition, and try to do what they did to us, which is create the atmosphere and play with aggression and intensity. We have to do that next Thursday.”
The Spain international is suspended for the visit of the Hammers after the interim United captain picked up two bookings during last Sunday’s 1-0 loss at West Brom.
The Red Devils suffered a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool in their first-ever meeting in Europe after goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino.
