Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Tottenham trip
Arsene Wenger confirms that Petr Cech is likely to miss Arsenal's clash with Tottenham on Saturday
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Petr Cech is likely to miss Saturday’s north London derby clash with Tottenham with a calf injury.
The Gunners goalkeeper picked up the problem late on during Arsenal’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Swansea City at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
Cech came up for an Arsenal corner in stoppage time and suffered the muscular problem as he ran back towards his goal late on.
Wenger confirmed the injury setback after the game but insisted that he has full faith in second-choice goalkeeper David Ospina.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Wenger said: “Petr Cech is injured.
“It’s a muscular problem, a calf problem and I don’t know how long he will be out for.
“I think it will keep him out of the game against Tottenham at the weekend. But I have full confidence in David Ospina.”
Wenger also confirmed that defender Laurent Koscielny would sit out Saturday’s game.
He added: “He has a calf problem as well. He will not play on Saturday.”
Arsenal took the lead through Joel Campbell’s volley, but were pegged back and beaten thanks to goals from Wayne Routledge and Ashley Williams at The Emirates.
The result left Arsenal in third place in the Premier League table and three points behind Tottenham heading into Sunday’s north London derby at White Hart Lane.
