Lee Dixon offers advice to next Chelsea manager
Lee Dixon says the next Chelsea manager faces a massive rebuilding job
Lee Dixon has warned the next Chelsea manager that he will face a massive rebuilding job at Stamford Bridge.
The defending Premier League champions suffered a humbling 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.
Chelsea look unlikely to qualify for next season’s competition after a 1-1 draw with Stoke City at the weekend left the west London side in tenth place and 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
Guus Hiddink’s players only chance of silverware this season lies in the FA Cup ahead of Saturday’s trip to Everton for the quarter-final at Goodison Park.
Former Juventus manager Antonio Conte is favourite to replace Hiddink after Italy’s European championship campaign in the summer.
Retired Arsenal defender Dixon advised Conte – or whoever Roman Abramovich turns to next – to build from the back with John Terry set to leave in the summer.
”It is a rebuilding job,” Dixon told ITV Sport.
”They need strengthening all over. The age thing. A new manager coming in would want to build from the back with John Terry not being there.”
Chelsae won their fourth Premier League title last season.
