Lee Sharpe: Why this man should be Man United’s next manager
Lee Sharpe wants to see Manchester United appoint Ryan Giggs as the club's new manager this summer
Lee Sharpe has urged Manchester United to appoint Ryan Giggs as the club’s next manager – and not Jose Mourinho.
Louis van Gaal’s future at Old Trafford continues to be a relentless source of speculation amid claims that sacked Chelsea boss Mourinho is set to take over from the Dutchman at the end of the season.
Van Gaal has found himself under constant scrutiny this season following his side’s inconsistent form in all competitions.
Mourinho is understood to be the front-runner for the Old Trafford job should Van Gaal be relieved of his duties in the summer.
However, Sharpe believes that Giggs, who is currently Van Gaal’s assistant boss at Old Trafford, would be the perfect man to take over this summer.
Speaking to talkSPORT over the weekend, Sharpe said: “I really don’t want Jose Mourinho in charge.
“As entertaining as he is, and as good as he is, I just don’t think his teams are Manchester United teams.
“He plays to spoil rather than to go out and win and let people express themselves and I think Ryan Giggs would do that. I think Giggsy would be perfect.
“Giggsy is perfect for the job. Manchester United need someone who knows the club and knows the way they should be playing and that has a comradery with the fans and he’s got all that.
“I know it’s a risk because he’s a brand new manager and he’s still young, but he’s worked under the best. He’s been under Sir Alex Ferguson, he’s seen David Moyes there, who was a bit of a tactician, and now he’s seen Louis van Gaal there for a couple of years.
“I think he’s got plenty of experience, plenty of knowledge and plenty of know-how to have a proper go at it.”
Manchester United’s next Premier League game is a home clash against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday 3 April, after the forthcoming international break.
