Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Man City v Man United
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester City to beat Manchester United
Mark Lawrenson believes Manchester City will secure derby glory over Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Citizens host their bitter rivals in the local clash which could have a big say on the outcome of the race for a top-four finish.
The Red Devils are in sixth place in the Premier League table and four points behind Manuel Pellegrini’s Citizens side, who reached the Champions League quarter-finals this week.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is confident City will dismiss the challenge from Louis van Gaal’s side.
“City will be lying in wait for Manchester United, though, because Louis van Gaal’s side have to deal with their Europa League tie with Liverpool on Thursday night,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“The likes of Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and David Silva are big-game players for City and I would expect them to make the difference.”
United crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night after a 3-1 aggregate defeat by Liverpool.
City, on the other hand, booked their place in the Champions League last eight after a 3-1 aggregate win against Ukraine side Dynamo Kyiv.
City and United played out a goalless draw in their Manchester derby at Old Trafford in the Premier League earlier this season.
