Anthony Martial has told his Manchester United team-mates that they must beat local rivals Manchester City on Sunday to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.

The Red Devils head into Sunday’s showdown at The Etihad looking to bounce back from their disappointing Europa League exit at the hands of Liverpool on Thursday night.

United have come in for plenty of criticism this season for failing to produce consistent performances under Louis van Gaal.

However, a win for the Red Devils against their bitter local rivals would leave them just a point behind City in the race for a top-four finish.

And striker Martial has talked up the importance of Sunday’s crunch clash at the Etihad.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Martial said: “It’s going to be an important game for us, and we need to win it in order to go up in the top of the table, it’s up to us now to make it happen by winning.

“There are still a few games left, if we win that game it will enable us to get to the top four.”
