Jesse Lingard is confident that Manchester United can get their season back on track by beating Manchester City in Sunday’s derby showdown.

The Red Devils head into the game on the back of their disappointing Europa League exit at the hands of bitter local rivals Liverpool on Thursday night.

United know that a win over their neighbours would move them to within one point of Manuel Pellegrini’s men heading into the closing stages of the season.

And although United star Lingard is expecting a tricky game at The Etihad, he is confident that United can get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday.

Speaking to United’s website, Lingard said: “It’s going to be a tough match as always, but we are going to be ready and prepared.

“Hopefully we can go there with the right mindset and a creative game plan. Everyone will be ready and we’ll believe [we can win the game] on Sunday.”

He added: “I thought we had tempo and energy through the whole game against Liverpool, and obviously our fans gave us that energy too. I don’t see why we can’t produce that in every game and push for that top-four spot.”

The Red Devils have taken just one point from a possible nine in their last three away games, losing to both Sunderland and West Brom.
