Nicky Butt is confident that Manchester United have what it takes to upset the odds and knock Liverpool out of the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils have a significant uphill task on their hands if they are to reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s second tier club competition.

Louis van Gaal’s side were thoroughly outplayed as they lost 2-0 in the first leg of the last 16 tie at Anfield last week.

United are now preparing to welcome their bitter local rivals to Old Trafford for the return leg of the clash.

And although Butt admits that the Red Devils have plenty to do, he feels that Van Gaal’s men are capable of causing an upset and reaching the quarter-final.s

Butt told United’s website: “Liverpool is going to be a tough task, they have two goals on us, but it’s home advantage and I feel, at Old Trafford, with a night game, we’re just waiting for that magic to happen and it can at any time.”
