Mark Lawrenson believes Louis van Gaal will leave Manchester United at the end of the season
Mark Lawrenson has tipped Louis van Gaal to leave Manchester United at the end of the season.
The 64-year-old Dutch coach has overseen a United resurgence in recent weeks after a run of four successive victories in all competitions.
The Red Devils have beaten Shrewsbury Town, FC Midtjylland, Arsenal and Watford over the past 11 days.
United moved level on points with fourth-placed Manchester City thanks to their 1-0 victory over Watford at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
However, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes even a top-four finish wouldn’t be enough to salvage Van Gaal’s United career in the summer.
“I think there will be lots of thoughts on LVG,” Lawrenson told BBC Radio Five Live.
“I don’t ultimately think he will be manager of Man United next August, regardless.”
United face West Brom at the Hawthorns Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Van Gaal led United to a fourth-place finish in his first season in charge at Old Trafford after he replaced David Moyes.
The 20-time English champions make the trip to bitter rivals Liverpool in the first leg of their Europa League clash at Anfield on Thursday night.
