Martin Keown says Arsenal may not be vocal on the pitch but the Gunners are more than capable of getting their business done.

Arsenal were heavily criticised for a 2-1 loss to Swansea City at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night in a blow to their title chances.

Earlier in the season Arsenal were a clinical team. They may not be that vocal on the pitch but they certainly did their talking with the ball

The Gunners are six points behind leaders Leicester City ahead of Saturday’s north London derby at White Hart Lane against title rivals Tottenham

Arsene Wenger has been accused of failing to adequately replace big characters such as Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, Keown refused to join the chorus of critics who have been blasting Arsenal’s lack of leadership on the pitch.

“I’m not going to join in the debate about leaders because everybody accuses Arsenal of lacking leadership and personality,” Keown said.

“I’m not in the dressing room so I don’t know who the characters are in the group. Charlie Adam says that Arsenal are a quiet team and there’s no question the confidence is ebbing away.

“Even Arsene Wenger looks like he’s doubting his team as the reality of these results is sinking in.”

Keown added: “But earlier in the season Arsenal were a clinical team. They may not be that vocal on the pitch but they certainly did their talking with the ball.

“I’m not saying they’re just a bunch of nice boys but when they quietly went about their business, it was usually enough. As soon as results change, the criticisms creep in.

“But things can change and if it needs somebody in the group to come forward and put themselves on the map, then so be it.”

Arsenal are bidding to win their first Premier League title since 2004.
