Martin Keown: Why Arsenal supporters are hurting even more
Martin Keown says Tottenham Hotspur's form is making Arsenal's faltering performances even more disappointing
Martin Keown says Tottenham Hotspur’s emergence as title contenders is heaping more misery on Arsenal.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are pushing Leicester City in the title race after racking up six wins in their last eight Premier League games.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have dropped off the pace following two defeats and a draw in their last three top-flight outings ahead of Saturday’s trip to Goodison Park.
Former Gunners defender Keown explained why Arsenal supporters are starting to turn on long-term manager Arsene Wenger.
“What is making it so difficult is our near neighbours doing what they’re doing,” Keown told BT Sport.
“Because Tottenham look like they’re creeping in and taking what Arsenal want, that’s hurting even more. That’s causing problems with the fans.”
Arsenal lost their first FA Cup game in three years last weekend after Watford were 2-1 winners at the Emirates Stadium in the quarter-final.
The Gunners’s week got even worse after a 3-1 loss to Barcelona at Camp Nou sealed their Champions League exit.
Wenger’s side haven’t reached the last eight of Europe’s top tier competition since 2010 despite qualifying for the Champions League knockout stage in the past five seasons.
