Mauricio Pochettino sends message to Tottenham fans about title challenge

Mauricio Pochettino is happy to let Tottenham fans dream about winning the Premier League this season

Mauricio Pochettino has told Tottenham’s fans that they are right to dream of winning the title after Spurs closed the gap on leaders Leicester with victory at Aston Villa on Sunday.

Harry Kane scored twice to wrap up a 2-0 win for the north London side and leave them two points behind Leicester, who host Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Tottenham have underlined their status as genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season with their recent impressive form.

And although Spurs boss Pochettino has told his players to forget about the talk of the title and focus on their own performances, he is happy for Tottenham supporters to get more carried away.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Sunday’s win, Pochettino said: “It was a good victory and three important points after a few games that have not been so good. We created more chances and played well.

“It is difficult to play against teams playing for survival but we had the right mentality and I am pleased. We need to keep the pressure on and win games. You cannot stop the dream of the supporters and they are right to dream. But we need to work hard.”
