Michael Owen predicts the outcome of Southampton v Liverpool
Michael Owen looks ahead to Liverpool's trip to Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday
Michael Owen is tipping Southampton to hold Liverpool to a low-scoring draw in Sunday’s Premier League clash at St Mary’s.
The Reds head into the game looking to build on their impressive Europa League triumph over Manchester United at Old Trafford in midweek.
Jurgen Klopp’s men sealed a 3-1 aggregate win over their bitter local rivals to set up a quarter-final clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs as they bid to climb the top flight table in the closing stages of the season.
However, former Reds striker Owen is expecting Liverpool to be frustrated by Ronald Koeman’s men on the south coast on Sunday afternoon.
Writing in his blog for Colossus Bets, Owen said: “Southampton have blown hot and cold in recent weeks but they got back on the winning trail with a 2-1 win at Stoke last week, and I think they may follow it up with a 1-1 home draw against Liverpool this weekend.
“That was the score line when the two sides met in October.
“A lot of people may want to side with Saints given that Liverpool were in action against Man United in the second leg of their Europa League game on Thursday night, but I’ll take a low-scoring draw.”
Liverpool, who beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in their last top flight game, finished sixth under Brendan Rodgers last season, before the Northern Irishman was sacked and replaced by Jurgen Klopp at Anfield back in October.
