Michael Owen states prediction for Man City v Man United
Michael Owen looks ahead to Sunday's Manchester derby clash between City and United
Michael Owen is tipping Manchester City to heap more misery on Manchester United by beating the Red Devils in Sunday’s derby clash at Etihad Stadium.
Louis van Gaal’s men have come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks for their stuttering form and were dumped out of the Europa League by Liverpool on Thursday night.
The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League table but know that a win in Sunday’s crunch derby clash would move them to within one point of their bitter local rivals.
However, former Liverpool and United striker Owen believes that Manuel Pellegrini’s men will have too much for the Red Devils at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
Writing in his column for Colossus Bets, Owen said: “It is clearly not ideal that United are in action then and visit Man City on Sunday afternoon, too, and that has to be in the favour of the home side.
“City clearly aren’t playing to their full capabilities at the moment, have failed to score in three of their last four games, and have Vincent Kompany out injured once again.
“But I have to fancy them to have too much for this struggling United side – these sides drew 0-0 at Old Trafford in October – and I expect Aguero and co to turn it on in this local derby. City 2-0 for me.”
United finished fourth in Van Gaal’s first season in charge last term but were dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage back in December.
