Michael Owen tweets his verdict on Chelsea’s Diego Costa
Michael Owen has his say after Diego Costa's red card during Chelsea's FA Cup loss to Everton
Michael Owen has taken to social media to claim that Diego Costa was lucky his ‘biting’ incident involved Gareth Barry and not another player after Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Everton on Saturday.
The Brazilian striker was sent off during the Blues’ FA Cup quarter-final loss to the Toffees at Goodison Park and appeared to make contact with the neck of Barry before receiving his first red card in English football.
Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Barry secured victory for Roberto Martinez’s men and booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
And former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen claimed that Costa is fortunate that Barry behaved in a professional manner at Goodison Park after the pair’s coming together.
Owen tweeted on Sunday:
On the alleged Costa 'bite', he was lucky he did it to Gareth Barry, a decent pro who wouldn't exaggerate to get a fellow pro in trouble.
