Michael Owen tweets verdict after Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Man United
Michael Owen says Manchester United's season is all but over after Thursday's 2-0 loss to Liverpool
Michael Owen warned Manchester United that their season is all but over after Thursday night’s 2-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield.
The Reds made the breakthrough in the first half when Daniel Sturridge beat United goalkeeper David De Gea from the penalty spot after Nathaniel Clyne was fouled marginally inside the area by Dutch winger Memphis Depay.
Liverpool midfielders Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho wasted great opportunities to extend the hosts’s lead in the first leg of their last-16 tie before half-time.
However, Roberto Firmino handed the Reds a commanding 2-0 first-leg lead at Anfield following good work by Jordan Henderson and Lallana.
Former Liverpool and United striker Owen insisted that it was a fair result given the home side’s dominance.
Pretty fair result at Anfield. The tie is still just about alive but on tonight's evidence, United's season is all but over.

Liverpool’s 2-0 win was their first victory over their bitter rivals United in four attempts.
Van Gaal’s will host West Ham United in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon before Liverpool travel to Manchester for the return leg.
