Nigel Winterburn: What Arsenal will have to do to win the title

Nigel Winterburn assesses Arsenal's title credentials ahead of the final nine games of the season

Nigel Winterburn says Arsenal would have to produce something “amazing” to win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have suffered a number of blows to their title hopes in recent weeks and are currently third in the table and eight points behind leaders Leicester heading into the final nine games of the season.

Arsenal came from a goal down to earn a 2-2 draw at Tottenham on Saturday as they dropped more points following back to back Premier League defeats at the hands of Manchester United and Swansea City.

Tottenham are currently three points above them in the table as the Premier League title race hots up.

And although former Arsenal defender Winterburn is refusing to rule his old club out of the race, he accepts that the Gunners face an uphill struggle if they want to win their first title since 2004 this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday morning, Winterburn said: “They’re still in the title race, it would be silly to write them off.

“But they would have to produce some amazing form from now until the end of the season.
