Paul Merson: This fixture will be tougher for Tottenham than Arsenal derby
Paul Merson believes West Ham will be a trickier game for Tottenham than Saturday's north London derby
Paul Merson believes West Ham United will pose Tottenham Hotspur more of a threat on Wednesday night than Arsenal in Saturday’s derby.
The Gunners suffered a 3-2 defeat by a weakened Manchester United side on Sunday afternoon to extend their winless run to three games in the last nine days.
The best I can see Tottenham coming away with is a draw
Tottenham, on the other hand, secured a morale boosting comeback over Swansea City after goals from Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose sealed a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane.
Former Arsenal playmaker Merson reckons their West Ham clash will be the toughest assignment of Tottenham’s remaining 11 games, despite the visit of the Gunners at The Lane on Saturday afternoon.
“This could be the hardest game Tottenham have got left to play this season (I know they play a North London Derby on Saturday – but if Arsenal play like they did at Old Trafford, they’ll get turned over),” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Every West Ham fan does not want Tottenham to win the Premier League and the atmosphere will be like a cup final on Wednesday night.
“Mark Noble was on The Fantasy Football Club recently saying the atmosphere against Liverpool was phenomenal – and I think this will be the same. The best I can see Tottenham coming away with is a draw.”
Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Leicester City in the title race.
Spurs were 4-1 winners against the Hammers at White Hart Lane in the Premier League earlier this season.
