Paul Scholes tells Louis van Gaal to start this player in Man United v Liverpool
Paul Scholes wants to see Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera start Manchester United's clash with Liverpool next week
Paul Scholes has urged Louis van Gaal to bring Ander Herrera into his midfield for Manchester United’s crunch Europa League clash with Liverpool next week.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to overturn a two-goal first-leg deficit after they were thoroughly outplayed in the first leg of the last 16 clash at Anfield on Thursday night.
Scholes believes that Van Gaal would be wise to deploy Michael Carrick in midfield at Old Trafford against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
And the former Manchester United midfielder would also like to see Ander Herrera get a run-out against the Reds.
Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of the return leg, Scholes said: “At Old Trafford, you can have a bit of time on the ball. But he has to play Carrick in midfield. He has to.
“Maybe then he brings in Ander Herrera as well. He’s been all right at Old Trafford and isn’t a bad attacking midfielder. He doesn’t do much away from home but hopefully there will be a bit of pace to it.”
United, who are currently sixth in the Premier League table, take on West Ham United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils’ next Premier League game is their crunch Manchester derby clash with City on 20 March.
