The Croatia international missed Sunday’s League Cup final at Wembey as the former Southampton defender recovered from an illness.
Lovren hasn’t featured for Liverpool since their 1-0 win at Stoke City in the League Cup semi-final in January after the centre-half injured his hamstring.
However, the 26-year-old trained with his Liverpool team-mates at Melwood on Tuesday evening as Lovren geared up for the visit of the new League Cup holders.
Lovren wrote on his Instagram page: “In Life, many things don’t go according to plan. If u fall, get back up. If u stumble, regain ur balance. #neverstop”
Brazil international Philippe Coutinho cancelled out Fernandinho’s opener at Wembley before City were 3-1 winners in the penalty shootout after the South American playmaker, Lucas Leiva and Adam Lallana missed their spot-kick attempts.
Liverpool secured a 4-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium in their Premier League meeting earlier this season thanks to Eliaquim Mangala’s own goal and efforts from Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel.
