Roberto Firmino could only grimace on the treatment table as the Liverpool physiotherapist presumably worked on the midfielder’s hamstring injury.

The South American has been nursing the hamstring problem in recent days after he picked it up following Thursday night’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Firmino was forced to sit out Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat by Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday as the Reds squandered a 2-0 lead to lose their first Premier League game in four outings.

The South American has joined Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool players in Tenerife as the 48-year-old works with his deleted squad at a warm weather training camp.

Firmino has been in outstanding form for Liverpool so far this year after a return of eight goals and seven assists in the Premier League.
