Ray Wilkins: Why I want Man United to appoint Jose Mourinho as manager
Ray Wilkins explains why he wants Man United target Jose Mourinho back in the Premier League
Ray Wilkins says he wants to see Jose Mourinho back in the Premier League amid reports the former Chelsea boss will take over at Manchester United.
The Portuguese coach has been unemployed after he was sacked by Chelsea following a disappointing start to their Premier League title defence.
Mourinho was replaced by interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink but was almost immediately linked with the United job after a run of poor results for the Red Devils.
The two-time Champions League winner is continuing to be linked with the Old Trafford role following United’s patchy for under current boss, Van Gaal.
Speaking on Fletch and Sav show on BT Sport on Sunday, former United midfielder Wilkins explained why he misses Mourinho in the Premier League.
“It has to be a huge club,” Wilkins said.
“I hope it is in the Premier League. I think we miss him.
“Yes, he can be extremely controversial but that’s part of Jose. It is part of his DNA.
“I hope he comes back and works in England.”
Mourinho led Chelsea to their fourth Premier League title and the League Cup crown last season.
