Rio Ferdinand was furious with Manchester United’s performance at Anfield during BT Sport’s coverage on Thursday night, and the retired defender was still angry over two hours after the Europa League tie.

Liverpool secured a commanding 2-0 aggregate lead in the first leg of their Europa League clash thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side could have won by a greater margin but for the heroics of David De Gea in the United goal, who made a string of outstanding saves to deny Philippe Coutinho, Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana.

Former United stars Ferdinand and Paul Scholes slammed the performance of Louis van Gaal’s players after the final whistle during BT Sport’s coverage of the Europa League game.

And Ferdinand still hadn’t cooled off after midnight as he took to Twitter to deliver his verdict on the 20-time English champions.

United will welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford in the second leg next Thursday.
