Rio Ferdinand reacts to Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to PSG
Rio Ferdinand has his say after Chelsea are dumped out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain
Rio Ferdinand gushed with praise for Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Swede inspired Paris Saint-Germain to a 2-1 victory at Chelsea to knock the Blues out of the Champions League.
The 34-year-old striker set up Adrien Rabiot to slot home in the 16th minute of the last 16 second leg at Stamford Bridge as PSG went 3-1 up on aggregate.
Chelsea pulled one back in the 27th minute in west London thanks to Diego Costa’s smart finish.
However, after Costa went off injured, Ibrahimovic converted an Angel di Maria cross in the 67th minute to secure PSG’s progress to the quarter-finals.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “The game was decided on clinical, top-level play and he [Ibrahimovic] was at the centre of that, both times, one with an assist and one with a goal.
“He showed today that even at 34, English clubs should be looking at this guy to come over here and be the catalyst to winning things.”
Chelsea must now dust themselves down as they turn their attentions back to domestic affairs and their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Everton on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues are currently languishing in 10th place in the Premier League table with nine games left to play this season.
