Rio Ferdinand says Liverpool need to lose their mid-table mentality after 3-0 win against Man City
Rio Ferdinand says Liverpool need to lose their mid-table mentality after Wednesday night’s 3-0 victory over Manchester City.
The Reds broke the deadlock in the 34th minute after Adam Lallana’s long-range strike crept past England No1 Joe Hart at Anfield.
Klopp will be thinking to himself that he has to get this mid-table mentaliy out of the squad
James Milner doubled the home side’s advantage before half-time and Roberto Firmino added a third in the 57th minute to seal three points.
Liverpool lost to City on penalties in Sunday’s League Cup final but Wednesday’s win lifts the 18-time English champions up to eighth place.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand explained how Jurgen Klopp needs to change the mentality of the club.
“You could never have called this game beforehand,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“Klopp will be thinking to himself that he has to get this mid-table mentaliy out of the squad.
“The mentality is that the big teams come, and Liverpool play. The teams were Liverpool need to take the initiative, they lose points.
“That’s the big Klopp needs to change at Liverpool.”
Liverpool are six points behind fourth-placed City in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
The Reds travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon at Selhurst Park.
The Merseyside outfit have won four of their last five games against City.
