Rob Jones: What position Jurgen Klopp must make priority Liverpool signing
Rob Jones says Liverpool need to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window
Liverpool need to sign a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Simon Mignolet in the summer transfer window, according to Rob Jones.
The Belgium put pen to paper on a new five-and-a-half year deal in January despite the 28-year-old shot stopper’s patchy form over the course of the 2015/16 season.
Jurgen Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers at Anfield in October, has regularly defended his first-choice goalkeeper despite speculation surrounding his future.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has been linked with a move for Koln shotstopper Timo Horn in recent weeks.
When asked which position Klopp must make a priority ahead of his first summer transfer window as Liverpool manager, Jones highlighted a new goalkeeper as a must.
“Simon Mignolet does some great things and does some really poor things,” Jones told The Sport Review.
“He kept us in the games at times but then he makes a couple of mistakes. We definitely need to strengthen in that area.”
Klopp’s predecessor Rodgers signed Mignolet in a £9m deal from Sunderland in 2013.
