Rob Jones has urged Liverpool to keep hold of Alberto Moreno beyond the summer transfer window.

The Reds defender has been linked with a potential move to La Liga giants Real Madrid at the end of the season after an inconsistent campaign for the 23-year-old full-back.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Koln defender Jonas Hector as a potential replacement for the Spain international should a move away from Anfield materialise.

However, former Reds full-back Jones believes Liverpool should keep Moreno at the 18-time English champions, adding that Moreno can improve over the summer as he adapts to Jurgen Klopp’s methods.

“Moreno is a bit erratic at times when he bombs forward. He can leave big gaps. He makes some silly mistakes,” Jones told The Sport Review.

“He has great potential. He has lost his head during the game or go missing. It just lets him down. He has potential. I wouldn’t get rid of him.

“He is still a young lad so he has the potential to improve. Next season, you’d hope he’d gel with some of the others.”

Moreno has made one assist in 26 Premier League appearances so far this season, although the Spanish starlet has picked up three cautions throughout the campaign.
